Grace in Every Stroke:
Lenten prayer through Calligraphy

A special Lenten workshop on calligraphy and illumination for beginners will take place at St. Olave's church for five consecutive Tuesday evenings in March with the Reverend Canon Robert J. Mitchell and myself.  We will explore how the act of calligraphic writing can be used in meditation.  All are welcome.

Tuesday, March 11, 18, 25, April 1, and April 8.

Please join us at 6 p.m. each week for a service of Evening Prayer,

followed by a light supper (with regular and vegetarian options, plus some delicious home-made pastries). Then stay with us from 7 to about 8 p.m., for the five-part workshop.

  1. Letters of Devotion – Practicing calligraphic strokes as a form of prayer

  2. Sacred Words on the Page – Writing a prayer in calligraphy with intention

  3. Designing for the Divine – Creating a layout that invites beauty and meditation

  4. Illuminating the Spirit – Drawing embellishments that reflect faith and grace

  5. Gilded in Glory – Adding color and gold to bring the prayer to life

6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
